Ten Ways I Made an Impact

I have made an impact on my September eBookBuddy partner, Jacob. I signed back up for the fall semester of the eBookBuddy organization because I enjoyed my time volunteering with this organization during the summer. I had no idea I would be paired with the student I had that past summer. After the second first meeting together, I knew that he was part of the program again because there is a dearth in the number of books available to him at home. The last time we were paired his initial reading level didn’t change as much, so together, we were on a mission to change this. He was challenged with the books this time, and by the time he took the reading assessment for the last meeting, he achieved a reading level high above his initial one from the first meeting we’ve ever had. This had a big impact on him as he was shocked, excited, and glad when this happened, which were all rational emotions to have because of this accomplishment.  I have made an impact on a new student here at GHS.

Dialogue Blog: "You first."

“You first." “No, you first because you were the one who insisted on getting a piece of cake.” “We both want a slice right now.” “I am too scrupulous to do this, but I guess cutting a piece can’t hurt.” “How is the cake?” “It’s not too sweet or acrid , which makes it good.” “I am glad it is as it is Dad’s birthday today, and we need the cake for the celebration.” “Yeah, we hardly ever do anything special for him.” “Dad has been stoical about things, but we all can tell what’s going on with his chronic condition.” “I don’t think one piece missing from the cake will be that big of a deal to him.” “Wait… are you not going to get a piece?” “No, I am not.” “It was rancorous for you to do this to me, but I will forget about this.” “The birthday card we got Dad creates an illusion that is appealing to the eyes and  the largess of our present to him will make his day.” “I need to abridge some of what I said in the card.” “No need for that right now because I just heard that the pi

Open Form Poem II: Does nobody understand?

I Try None of us knows what other people go through All we can do is ponder about, if that person’s life is as tough as opening a container of nails, or if it’s as easy as counting to your 123s.  I am a high school student finishing up my sophomore year. I remain inconspicuous while roaming the halls at school.  Time flies when you are having fun, we say.  I feel that statement should be obsolete; time is flying, and I am not having fun.  My life may seem easy and great to the people around me. I have ample people like this in my life- I don’t need anymore.  All I have to do is go to school and go back home, doing it all over again the next day. People who say that I have it easy can only see my life from the outside.  They aren’t putting themselves in my shoes,  and that is the problem.  I am the supporting friend,  as I always have to bolster how they’re confidence and feelings.  When I am around them, I turn on all my amiable qualities; it’s why I am there.  Being tactful is

Open Form Poem: My passion is the lightning glut

My passion is the lightning glut. I’ve been an ardent person about it for as long as I can remember.  My passion alleviates all my problems, no matter how big they are. The trees become razed by this lightning glut. A conflagration broke out due to my passion. It strikes people quickly. Some never see it coming. It is as fast as Usain Bolt. Once this passion attacks, it never stops. It thunders all night, waking everyone up. No one can stop it.  They say I have the delusion that I will always have this passion. I believe God gave me my passion; this makes people that believe in atheistic logic furious. I try to abstain myself away from these types of people since they are being veracious when they say these types of things.  Despite these doubters, I cling on tenaciously to the lightning glut.  My passion is not going anywhere. This can be frightening at times, but I still allow it to happen. Most try to convalesce after they get struck by it.  They fail as my passion is th

A New Flower Everyone was developing and growing into a new person, which was a good and bad thing.  Bella sure was. She allowed her mind to grow before the school year started. On the first day of high school, Bella noticed that her friends had changed. The uniformity of their first day of school looks was no surprise to her. She was aware that things could not be the same as they were in the past.  Her friends, Brooke and Molly, have started to blossom, and they have started to take a new approach to things. Broke was the tall one of the group who used to wear glasses- she now wears contacts. Molly was almost as tall as Brooke, and she recently got her braces off. Bella looked the same as she did last year, but her mindset and how she thought had changed: she developed an eclectic taste in new things and started to be intrepid because she had the time to. She did not have to pretend to like things that her friends liked. Over the summer, Brooke and Bella decided to leave Bella o

NYT 1000 Writing Prompts: 106

  106. Have You Fallen Into ‘Friends’ or Any Other Older Television Shows? I have recently become interested in some older television shows because of reboots of older shows such as The Proud Family and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.  I watched a couple of episodes of the old Proud Family when they aired one night on Disney when I was younger. I enjoyed watching episodes from the show because there was a lot of representation. Disney+ has all of the old Disney shows that used to be on back then, so I decided to binge-watch both seasons of the Proud Family and give the reboot of this show a try; I enjoy watching both of them. I have not tried the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot on Peacock. While looking at the reviews of this show, I saw that people who wrote them eulogized the writers of this show. Their work was pretty rhetorical because their responses were long detailed opinions. I am giving the old version a try because I have heard that some of the episodes have interesting plot li

Superpower: The Power to Read People's Minds

Hearing Inside  Our contemporary society is always thinking  I always see people looking at me then I start to overthink.  These looks sometimes seem mean, Or do not mean anything. I can be ambivalent about these things- it is hard going based on looks.  Suddenly, I got this funny feeling in my gut. Through my ears, I could hear these voices, Getting louder and louder.  No one else could hear them except me. Just by looking at anyone, I knew what they were thinking. And I could feel myself changing. The hardy people were quiescent on the outside.  And I was sensing what was going on in each mind.  I could only assume that this one person was a narcissist . A guy seemed mean and like a misanthrope , as he thought poor about humankind .  There were some arid minds. This mental power allowed me to hear some palatable thoughts.  Mentally I was listening to people overthinking, A ponderous person worried about how they looked. Others worried about what people think about them, Jus
