Gratitude and Thanksgiving Blog

What are you grateful for today? How about you put the gold ball on that side. November was coming to an end, and my family and I started to put up our Christmas tree. My parents work as hard as a NASCAR pit crew ; despite their busy work schedules, they make time to spend with us . My parents are altruistic people who try their best. I know that every family puts up and decorates a Christmas tree, but I am grateful for this. The tree squeals with delight as we decorate it with glittery garlands and one-of-a-kind ornaments . We usually wait until the day after Thanksgiving, but we decided to try something new. It was Saturday night, and my mom and dad were bringing the tree through the door. I could see that they were having a hard time carrying it as it was tall and wide. “Do you guys need help, I asked?” They declined because the tree was already in the home, ready to be decorated in our living room. My siblings and I thought it was novel to see our parents getting the tree t...

Childhood Memory

Awake Wake up, Angel, it is Christmas! I was so tired because I could not fall asleep the night before. Edwina, my younger sister, was as energetic as a puppy. To please my sister, I woke up (even though it was seven in the morning).   When I woke up from my sleep, I was  parched . I could smell the handmade pancakes, bacon, and eggs coming from the kitchen; the pancakes smelled like baked cake with hot maple syrup, and there was a natural meat smell coming from the bacon. My mom and dad were in the kitchen cooking breakfast so we could all eat before we started the day." Your brother has already had a piece of the  savory  bacon," mom explained. My brother was already sitting at the table waiting to eat- my parents, sister, and I joined him. The glass plates had been out, the light was beaming on the bright silver utensils, and the Christmas presents under the tree stared at us as we started to eat. Because of how breakfast tasted, I claimed th...

Living My Best Life

choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? I would have Dr. James P. Comer as a dinner guest Dr. James P. Comer is a professor of Child Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine and a co-founder of the Black Psychiatrists of America. The work he has done to improve the academic performance of children makes me venerate him. I am interested in psychiatry, and the education reform he has done has benefited society. At dinner, I would ask him about the Comer Method, and what his life as a child psychiatrist has been like, and I would recount the stories about my volunteer experiences. Would you like to be famous? In what way? No, I would not like to be famous because it can get odious with everyone knowing your every move and paparazzi taking pictures of you. I do not want to turn into the next overnight TikTok sensation or get my Instagram followers to one million. I want to be known for the work I have done in my field to help society. Being kn...

I open emails from colleges. Checking my email is a habit I do 24/7. There was an option to sign up to receive emails from colleges on CollegeBoard, which was a good and bad idea. I found out about colleges that interest me, but some colleges annoyingly spam me with emails. I open every piece of mail in my inbox, so my inbox does not have thousands of emails. These colleges want you to be interested in them, so they add links and articles that will send you to their website. I click on the links and spend time exploring their academics section. While doing this, I am focusing on the future when I should be worried about events, assignments, tests, and activities in the present.  I listen to music. Occasionally listening to music helps me finish my schoolwork and tasks. Most of the time, I distract myself and lose track of time while listening. Music that I have on repeat over and over makes me lip-sync. I skip some songs that I don't want to hear, which wastes time because I...

Ten Things You May Not Know About Me

I began running on the high school track and field team in seventh grade. I saw a flyer for a Guilderland youth track and field program and decided to join. I had only ever run in the gym, so I was new to the sport. I was in the group of distance runners and hurdlers. I quickly started to love hurdles. It took some practice to get the hang of actually hurdling over the hurdles, but I soon got the hang of it. Two years later, I learned that GHS had an indoor track team. I couldn't be on the team unless the coach put me on a list to move up; I later found out I was on the list. First, I had to go through the athletic placement process. I got on the High School Indoor and Outdoor track and field teams after passing the process. I am still on the team and compete in the hurdle and sprinting events.  Link to image   During the summer, I learned how to play tennis. My father was always trying to get my sister and me to play tennis because he thought we would be good at it. Te...
